£1.6m London Purchase for a French National Returning to the UK
What was the situation?
He had previously lived and worked in the UK for twelve years before relocating to France, remaining with the same financial services firm throughout. He was now preparing to return to the UK while continuing his career with the firm.
The client received a strong income comprising salary, bonus and restricted stock units, alongside property interests in France and the US. He had a substantial deposit available but wanted to retain part of his capital for light updates to the property following completion.
What was the issue?
The lender therefore needed to understand his post-Brexit residency position, establish the continuity of his employment and assess his overseas income, assets and property commitments. Supporting documents from France also needed to be translated and presented in a form that met UK underwriting requirements.
What was the process?
The client’s uninterrupted employment with the same firm was central to Martin’s approach. His twelve-year history of living and working in the UK demonstrated an established connection to the country, while his continued employment in France provided valuable continuity. Martin used the client’s UK company address from his earlier period of employment as the basis for the application, positioning it as a standard residential case rather than a fresh overseas enquiry.
Martin worked directly with the lender’s business development manager to clarify its post-Brexit residency requirements and agree how the case should be presented. This allowed the application to be assessed under standard residential criteria, rather than restricting the client to an overseas lending route.
With no recent UK credit profile available, the strength and clarity of the supporting evidence were particularly important. Martin assembled a detailed picture of the client’s employment, income, assets, existing property interests and planned return to the UK. French documents were translated into English and the client’s overseas financial position was presented in terms the lender could assess.
The additional paperwork meant the case took longer to progress than an application from an established UK resident. Martin managed each request directly with the lender and kept the application moving while mortgage rates were rising.
What was the solution?
This enabled the client to proceed with his return to London while retaining funds for the planned updates to his new home.
The outcome reflects LDN Finance’s experience arranging high-value residential lending for returning UK residents and international clients, including where overseas assets, multiple income sources and limited recent UK credit history require careful presentation.

As a returning customer, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the team for their outstanding support during the completion of my property purchase. In particular, Catherine and Darren have been incredibly helpful throughout the process. My fiancée and I were recommended to LDN Finance when we started our mortgage journey, and the service we have received, and continue to receive, has been outstanding throughout. Phil Levesley initially looked after us and made what can be a very daunting process feel straightforward and easy to understand. He took the time to explain everything clearly, never rushed us, and was always happy to answer any questions we had. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble. As part of the process, we also wanted to explore a number of protection policies, and Phil introduced us to his colleague,
Owen was absolutely amazing and supported me every step of the way throughout the mortgage process. He was always clear, patient, and incredibly reassuring, making what could have been a stressful experience feel smooth and manageable. Bharathy was also really helpful, promptly getting in touch and making sure all the relevant information was handled efficiently. I couldn’t be happier with the service and would highly recommend them both. Five stars without hesitation.
